    Robert Lee is a lecturer in American History at the University of Cambridge and a fellow of Selwyn College. His research examines relationships between Indigenous dispossession and US state formation in the nineteenth century American West. He earned his Ph.D. at the University of California, Berkeley, a land-grant university
