Dr. Hazel Martha Stanton of the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY used data from the Eugenics Record Office and the University of Iowa to study the mechanisms of how musical talent might be inherited. Eugenicists believed that if they could understand the heredity of musical talent, they could use that knowledge to engineer the development and transmission of other talents too.
